Frank Wallace\, a prolific composer of solos\, chamber music and song\, here shows that “…he can match the musicality of any player out there…virtuosic but always in a musically convincing way.” [This is Classical Guitar]. Three exquisite historical guitars from Wallace’s personal collection are featured in music appropriate for each: Sor\, Aguado\, Tárrega\, de Falla\, Turina and Mompou. Wallace has played these instruments by Manuel Gutierrez\, Sevilla\, 1854; Manuel Ramirez\, Madrid\, c. 1910; and Ignacio Fleta\, Barcelona\, 1964 for over 20 years on his most popular recordings on the Gyre label. Known for his “elegant virtuosity” (Classics Today)\, Frank Wallace tours internationally as a soloist and with mezzo-soprano Nancy Knowles and records for Gyre.

SUMMARY:Frank Wallace Workshop: "The Singing Guitar"
DESCRIPTION:“The Singing Guitar: How To Play Beautiful Vocal Lines on the Guitar” \nIs your guitar a mini-orchestra as Andre Segovia described it? Or a small chamber choir or solo singer\, violin virtuoso or blown woodwind? What is it? How do you approach the playing of melodic lines? This workshop will discuss the techniques involved in making your guitar sing like a singer. What is vibrato? What is legato? What is portamento? What is the best fingering to achieve your goal? How do timbre and attack effect your vocal line? \nFrank Wallace is uniquely qualified to teach this workshop. He began his career as a guitar major at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he also sang with the Cantata Singers\, a semi-professional group led by one of Frank’s first mentors\, Jon Bailey. Upon graduation\, he moved to Boston and immediately joined Marleen Montgomery’s Quadrivium\, a mixed ensemble of early music instrumentalists and singers. \nRegistration is required for participants — all skill levels can participate!\n Tickets are $25 for workshop participants; $12 for observing audience.
